WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

A dental implant is a surgical-grade root that is used to replace a portion of the natural tooth that is missing. The implant is made out of titanium due to its biocompatibility property. The titanium implant infuses into the jaw and anchors the replacement tooth. A ceramic crown is then mounted on this titanium root to complete the tooth replacement. Dental implants can be used to fix anything from a single missing tooth, a broken tooth, a decayed tooth or an entire set of teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get a Dental Implant?

When most people lose a tooth for good, it is advisable to get a dental implant, and here is why. The root structure of teeth is essential to the size and shape of the jawbone. Once you lose a tooth or a few of them, your jawbone will shrink causing the skin of your face to sink in. This will in turn cause wrinkling of the face and will make the face look older than it actually is. Getting a dental implant will ensure that your jawbone remains intact since it retains the tooth’s root structure. More so, a dental implant lasts a lifetime, so you don’t have to worry about replacing it from time to time. Dr.Paltsev will provide further insight and expert advice as to why you need to get an implant.

What does the procedure entail?

The entire procedure is a multi-step process that takes anywhere between 6 and 9 months. The procedure starts with a keyhole surgery to place the titanium rod in the root position of the tooth. The guided keyhole surgery ensures minimal damage to the soft tissue around the gum therefore quick recovery. Typically, this procedure does not take more than 2 hours during which you are sedated or under anesthesia. The implant is then left to heal for around 6 months, depending on how well it is healed. This allows for the implant to infuse with the bone structure. During the healing period, you will return to your surgeon to check on the healing progress from time to time.

Once the completely healed, a permanent crown will be fitted and placed. Once the procedure is done, your new implants fit right in and can’t be told apart from your natural teeth. Your new teeth will feel just like your natural teeth, from the look, to the feel and the chewing capabilities after a brief adaptation period. The same way you take care of your natural teeth, proper care should be given to dental implants, with proper hygiene and regular visits to the dentist.

Types of Dental Implants

At Little Green Building, our team has experience in providing lasting dental implants solutions. There are different types of dental implants dentists can provide clients. Below are some of the various dental implant types available at Little Green Building.

Single Dental Crowns

In most cases, a dental implant is used to replace a single missing tooth. The procedure requires one crown and one implant. Unlike alternative restorations, the single tooth dental crown replaces the whole missing tooth from the root to the crown. Therefore, if one has a single missing tooth, or multiple teeth not adjacent to one another, then the single dental crown implant is the ideal option.

Conversely, single dental crown implant is not the best option for an individual with multiple missing teeth adjacent to one another.

The Process

Using surgical-guided technology, oral surgeon places an implant within your jawbone. This process is almost painless and the healing time for the post to fuse entirely with your bone is between 90-120 days.

Once you heal, we connect a custom-designed crown to your implant  using an abutment. The result is uniformity in your teeth structure and feel.

Dental Bridges

It is the best option if you have multiple missing teeth adjacent to each other. A dental bridge consists of two crowns on both sides of the missing tooth gap with an artificial tooth supported by the crowns in between.

Instead of attaching the crown to the teeth, an implant-supported bridge has crowns that link to implants. This procedure resembles single tooth dental implants. The difference is that the teeth missing in the gap  won’t get a dental implant.

With a dental bridge implant, you can safely replace multiple missing adjacent teeth and save yourself the cost of having to replace each tooth.

Dental Implant Retained Dentures

A denture rests on your gums and gives the impression that you have a complete set of teeth. Unfortunately, traditional dentures are removable, meaning they can fall out, slip, slide, and make daily tasks such as eating and talking uncomfortable.

At The Little Green Building we can help you secure your dentures with dental implants permanently. It is the best option for individuals missing most teeth in an arch (upper or lower
