Dental Fillings and Cavity Treatment
Every time you eat something you are adding bacteria to your mouth, which unfortunately lives on your teeth. After bacteria eat they produce a strong acid that actually eats away at your teeth. If you don’t remove this sticky layer of bacteria, known as plaque, by brushing and flossing your teeth in a timely manner, the bacteria will keep ruining your tooth structure until you get a hole in your tooth. These holes are commonly known as cavities, and can lead to more tooth decay and larger problems if they aren’t treated soon with fillings.
Our process
We first professionally remove all of the nasty bacteria to prep the teeth affected by cavities. We then use modern, white fillings which nicely blend natively into your teeth, making the teeth with fillings look very smooth and natural like they did before the cavities arrived on the scene. Our fillings are made up from the best materials available on the market today, and the restorations have a generous lifespan of several years.
Porcelain Veneers
If your teeth have gaps in them, are crooked, worn, stained, discoloured, or chipped, then this treatment may be ideal for your particular situation. Porcelain dental veneers are essentially custom made shells or covers of tooth material, which are designed to cover the front surface of your teeth to improve the visual appearance of your smile. Veneers are ideal for people who want natural and beautiful looking teeth.
When porcelain veneers are bonded to teeth they are virtually undetectable, and are resistant to stains from substances such as wine, coffee, and tea, and even smoke related stains. Their strength is very strong, and visually they resemble natural white tooth enamel.
Our process
We first prep your tooth or teeth that are getting the treatment, and take impressions. We place temporary veneers on your tooth or teeth initially until your custom, hand made veneers arrive from the lab, this process typically takes two weeks. We then bond your custom veneers to the tooth or teeth with the longest lasting aesthetic cement so you can feel confident in the veneers fixation. You can expect your custom veneers to last at least a few years with daily brushing and flossing care.
Tooth Extractions
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. A dentist will always try their very best to save a tooth that has been broken or damaged for various reasons. Sometimes though a tooth is damaged beyond repair and as a last resort the tooth must be extracted.
Our process
We first take X-rays of the area where the tooth resides to access the situation more carefully. Next, we come up with a succession plan to best remove the tooth in the simplest, quickest, and most pain-free way. Once we are ready to move forward with the extraction, we use a local anesthetic to freeze the area. Then we gently loosen the tooth, and finally we remove it. Post extraction, the next step is to replace the extracted tooth with a dental implant within a time period of 6 months to prevent the affected bone from recessing.
Removable Dentures
When more complex and costly work such as implants are not desired for a patient, then removable dentures are an effective, lower-cost option. Full or partial dentures are made up of a gum coloured base made out of plastic resin, which fits over the remaining alveolar ridge that formerly held the teeth. Dentures are held in place mostly thanks to the suction effect of their close fit against the alveolar ridge, so it’s very important that they are very well fitted. Wearing dentures early on can be challenging for chewing and speaking, but the muscles, nerves, and ligaments adapt to the new setup over time, and these activities resume as normal as a result. A more youthful appearance can also be a side benefit thanks to dentures supporting the facial skeleton and the soft tissues of the cheeks and lips.
Our process
Creating high quality dentures is a mix of science and art. We first make a mold from the the alveolar ridges on the bottom and top of your mouth. The base of the denture is constructed from the mold in a lab. We then collaborate with a lab technician and select dentures by looking at various shapes and sizes of prosthetic teeth to mimic your natural looking smile. Once all parties are happy with the projected result, the temporary dentures are manufactured into a permanent solution.
Periodontics
Periodontal disease originates from a build up of plaque, and the mouth tries to deal with the issue by eliminating the bacteria, but through this battle, the cells of your immune system release substances that cause destruction and inflammation of the gums, periodontal ligament alveolar bone. This results in swelling and bleeding gums, signs of gingivitis is the earliest form of these disease, and loosening of teeth in severe cases.
Our process
In dealing with periodontal disease, we first have to access the situation and diagnose how severe the damage is. We review medical history to identify any factors that may be contributing to the deterioration We look for plaque and tartar buildup, and check for easy gum bleeding. We measure your teeth’s pocket depth which is the groove between your gums and teeth, and anything that measures more than 4mm may indicate that disease has begun to set in. We also take X-rays to check for any bone loss that may have occurred In simple cases we then thoroughly clean the pockets around the teeth to prevent damage to the surrounding bone structure. In more complicated cases, dental surgery treatment may be needed.
